About Charlie

Charlie is a highly skilled and empathetic practitioner who specialises in acupunture. She can also provide Tuina (pronounced twee-na), which is a tratitional form of Chinese Medical Massage blended into her treatments.

Charlie studied acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading and has spent her whole adult life studying and practicing Chinese energetic and healing systems, including qi gong, nei gong, tai chi, acupuncture and tuina. Charlie holds a degree and licentiate in Acupuncture and a post-graduate diploma in tuina.

In 2007, she launched ACMAC (www.acmac.net), to gather information about multi-bed practice, list all the UK multi-bed clinics, and to offer support and encouragement to help new clinics get started. She is a leading member of the low-cost multi-bed acupuncture clinic that runs at the centre on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays each week. She is registered with the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (member number 415).

What happens during a treatment session?

Charlie explains what happens during a typical initial appointment:

"During your first appointment, I will take a full case history to determine your current state of health, what complaints need addressing, any relevant medical history, medications, and so on.

I will then explain what I plan to do and make sure you’re happy for me to proceed. I will help you get comfortable on the treatment couch.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles in to appropriate points on the body. Although you will feel some sensation I am very gentle and it needn't be painful! The needles remain in place for 25-30 minutes.

Depending on what your presenting condition requires, I might include some tuina massage (which is done with you fully clothed, no oil).

After the treatment I will ensure that you feel well and advise on any relevant after-care. I might offer some diet, exercise or lifestyle advice. I’ll suggest the optimum time for your next treatment."

Charlie is happy to offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to talk about your health and conditions. Please contact the clinic reception to organize this.
