About Ashka
Ashka believes that true yoga meets you wherever you are in life and whatever your level of flexibility. In her experience it enhances awareness and calms the mind to connect to the heart. She practices yoga not to become better at yoga, but to get better at living and is a strong believer in taking yoga off the mat.
Ashka has two decades of experience as as a yoga asana practitioner, but only after incorporating meditation and self enquiry practices she noticed dramatic change in her
being. She then went to study Hatha, Restorative Yoga, Yin, Yoga Nidra and Meditation to become a teacher.
Ashka also trained as a Humanistic counsellor. She has found lots of parallels between yoga and counselling as both can help us to focus on the present moment, enhance our ability to observe thoughts and feelings and gain greater self-awareness; and in her
opinion both beautifully complement each other. Ashka’s teaching style is informed by her counselling experience.
It is Ashka’s belief that in yoga we are not trying to get anywhere or become anything, you are perfect as you are.
The physical benefit of yoga, strength and flexibility are mere side effect of something more profound that is going on.
Creative Yoga Flow Class - Mondays 8:15am
Ashka offers a mindful Creative Flow of yoga inspired movement.
Mindful movement can increase self-awareness and bring the practitioner into a greater relationship with their own body and moving in a playful and creative way can improve brain health and relieve stress.
The class has reflective and meditative qualities, brings focus to how the movement feels in the body, connecting to the interoceptive sensing, finding spaciousness and length through breath and movement and asking the practitioner to embrace the inner witness.
The practice starts lying on the ground to connect to the sensation in the body and create a relationship to the floor and gravity, incorporating some somatic movement and then slowly raising up to some more dynamic and strength building
poses and movement, finding equilibrium between effort and ease.
At the end of the practice the practitioner returns to lying on the floor to recreate relationship to the ground with a new perspective of the body and mind after the somatic journey.
Students of all levels from beginners upwards are very welcome. You can book your place HERE or for questions and general enquiries please contact Ashka on ashka.mindbodyspirittherapies@gmail.com
